Must Have for Report and Research Writers
I don't know what I would have done without this reference book! When working on my master's of education degree, the APA Publications Manual was my most used resource. The manual is organized in a way that is easy to navigate and contains many examples of APA style (for the visual learner!) A must have for anyone who does any writing for education, research, and the like.

As good as any, but that's not saying much
I find all of these text nearly impossible to use and this is no exclusion. Confusing, it gives no overall picture of what citations should be like and simply muddles me up. I know its necessary, and it is, but will someone please write one of these I can understand???

Publication manual of the American Psychological Association.
I purchased this book as a resource for a class that I am taking. The manual has been a real help. It is full of examples and specific guidelines regarding the Apa format. It is a great addition to any library.

this is one of the best batman stories you can read from someone other that Kane himself. though there are a lot of good stories of batman, the villians never had a great long back story. but Alan Moore has brought us this piece of genius that takes us through the mind of batman's arch-enemy the joker. this is a great buy if you weren't able to buy the original. it's a great and if you liked this than consider Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison.

Pretty damned Pretty
The art in this book is killer, and worth the purchase in itself. The story on the Joker and the 1 day it takes to push a normal man over the edge is also very strong. Definitely enjoyed this read.

Better than the original
I'll keep this short. I have the original "prestige format" copy and I STILL bought the hardcover...it's that great a story. One of my favorite Joker stories ever. I had to have it in hardbound.

When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave--"Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams"--wasn't about dying. We were shy about barging in on Randy Pausch's valuable time to ask him a few questions about his expansion of his famous Last Lecture into the book by the same name, but he was gracious enough to take a moment to answer. (See Randy to the right with his kids, Dylan, Logan, and Chloe.) As anyone who has watched the lecture or read the book will understand, the really crucial question is the last one, and we weren't surprised to learn that the "secret" to winning giant stuffed animals on the midway, like most anything else, is sheer persistence.

Amazon.com: I apologize for asking a question you must get far more often than you'd like, but how are you feeling?

Pausch: The tumors are not yet large enough to affect my health, so all the problems are related to the chemotherapy. I have neuropathy (numbness in fingers and toes), and varying degrees of GI discomfort, mild nausea, and fatigue. Occasionally I have an unusually bad reaction to a chemo infusion (last week, I spiked a 103 fever), but all of this is a small price to pay for walkin' around.

Amazon.com: Your lecture at Carnegie Mellon has reached millions of people, but even with the short time you apparently have, you wanted to write a book. What did you want to say in a book that you weren't able to say in the lecture?

Pausch: Well, the lecture was written quickly--in under a week. And it was time-limited. I had a great six-hour lecture I could give, but I suspect it would have been less popular at that length ;-).

A book allows me to cover many, many more stories from my life and the attendant lessons I hope my kids can take from them. Also, much of my lecture at Carnegie Mellon focused on the professional side of my life--my students, colleagues and career. The book is a far more personal look at my childhood dreams and all the lessons I've learned. Putting words on paper, I've found, was a better way for me to share all the yearnings I have regarding my wife, children and other loved ones. I knew I couldn't have gone into those subjects on stage without getting emotional.

Amazon.com: You talk about the importance--and the possibility!--of following your childhood dreams, and of keeping that childlike sense of wonder. But are there things you didn't learn until you were a grownup that helped you do that?

Pausch: That's a great question. I think the most important thing I learned as I grew older was that you can't get anywhere without help. That means people have to want to help you, and that begs the question: What kind of person do other people seem to want to help? That strikes me as a pretty good operational answer to the existential question: "What kind of person should you try to be?"

Amazon.com: One of the things that struck me most about your talk was how many other people you talked about. You made me want to meet them and work with them--and believe me, I wouldn't make much of a computer scientist. Do you think the people you've brought together will be your legacy as well?

Pausch: Like any teacher, my students are my biggest professional legacy. I'd like to think that the people I've crossed paths with have learned something from me, and I know I learned a great deal from them, for which I am very grateful. Certainly, I've dedicated a lot of my teaching to helping young folks realize how they need to be able to work with other people--especially other people who are very different from themselves.

Amazon.com: And last, the most important question: What's the secret for knocking down those milk bottles on the midway?

Pausch: Two-part answer:
1) long arms
2) discretionary income / persistence

Actually, I was never good at the milk bottles. I'm more of a ring toss and softball-in-milk-can guy, myself. More seriously, though, most people try these games once, don't win immediately, and then give up. I've won *lots* of midway stuffed animals, but I don't ever recall winning one on the very first try. Nor did I expect to. That's why I think midway games are a great metaphor for life.

Randy Pausch is a Professor of Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, and Design at Carnegie Mellon University. From 1988-1997, he taught at the University of Virginia. He is an award-winning teacher and researcher, and has worked with Adobe, Google, Electronic Arts (EA), and Walt Disney Imagineering, and pioneered the Alice project. He lives in Virginia with his wife and three children.

Jeffrey Zaslow, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, attended the last lecture, and wrote the story that helped fuel worldwide interest in it. He lives in suburban Detroit with his wife, Sherry, and daughters Jordan, Alex and Eden.

What a Lecture!
As you read "The Last Lecture," you realize this is a book not written just as another philosophically dense lecture series but it's coming from the heart, from Randy's own experience with terminal cancer and coming to terms with his own limited time on earth.

Knowing his time is limited, you sense an urgency in his message and at the same time what is the most important in life becomes defined through his words. All the things that we think need to be put off for later. All the dreams we have left as relics to be abandoned from our childhood, when you face your own mortality come to the foreground as the very essence of existence.

This is an unforgettable lecture that will change you and also touch you. "The Last Lecture" will be a great legacy for Randy on its own but even more he'll be remembered for personally touching so many people mentioned in this book.

"The Last Lecture" can make a difference in your life and you should definitely consider buying it. Another book about inner growth that I liked is "Nexus: A Neo Novel."

~A lasting message for all of us~
I really enjoy books that force the reader to give pause and really think about the deeper issues of life. It seems like in our time people notice the forest but miss each individual tree of that forest and that is a shame really. I have watched the lecture and now I have permanent copy in book form of this wonderful lecture given by Randy Pausch. I am extremely thankful that Randy didn't bog this book down with religious non-sense as I would have tuned out the entire message. Randy has spoken and written about the art of dying with dignity, as a human. The main idea of this book is that each of us has choice in what attitude we will take in any given situation that life presents to us and we have either a good attitude or bad one with varying degrees in between.

About the Author
Lewis Aleman grew up and still resides just outside of New Orleans. In 1999, he received a degree in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University. While there, he published short stories and poems in various publications. At 19, he was offered a publishing contract for his first novel, Alone. After graduating, he taught high school English for five years, where he established and moderated a Writer's Club. While teaching, he wrote and recorded two songs that received steady radio airplay in New Orleans. Currently, Lewis is working steadfastly on writing the prequel to Cold Streak, entitled Rage, and his writing is being taught in some New Orleans schools.

Loved it
I loved this book from the very beginning. Lewis Aleman writes beautifully and really draws the reader into his story. As a mother myself, I found Laura's story eliciting all kinds of emotions I never thought I could feel with a book. It was heart wrenching and wonderful all at the same time. And I truly loved the whole religious feel to the story. Many people may have issues with that, but I think it made the story completely believable. I have recommended this book to all my Book Club friends and look forward to other books by this author. What a great author and book!

A journey worth taking
The author grabs your attention at the beginning of the book, and he keeps you interested throughout the end. The book starts out with a woman receiving the news of her family's murder. She then begins a roller coaster journey through the darkest of human emotions. At times she seems to lose her identity to these emotions. She travels down paths that introduce many characters and sub plots that vary from humorous to despicable. Eventually, though, she faces the reality of the situation, and she is forced to deal with it. Her journey is vividly depicted, and you find yourself connecting with her on multiple levels. As the journey nears it's end a Christian element is introduced, and you begin to realize that she is impacting everyone she comes into contact with in a positive way. The ending gives you a good feeling and brings closure to the journey. All elements of the story tie together beautifully. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. I am looking forward to more works by Lewis Aleman in the future.

Stick with it. It's worth it.
I had a difficult time getting into the book. The language seemed a bit stilted at first, but after a while, it began to get gripping and I had a hard time putting it down. It definitely gives you something to think about.
